Bakugan Birthday Cake

bakugan cake topperIf you’re looking for a Bakugan party cake, you’ll probably have to make it yourself. Although it’s a popular party theme, it’s also quite new, and many bakeries are not yet offering Bakugan-themed cakes. Luckily, there are a few different ways you can create a cake with a Bakugan theme that range in difficulty from moderate to easy.

Bakugan ball cakes
Use a half-globe baking pan like the sports ball pan set made by Wilton, and use two packages of cake mix to bake four half-globes in two batches. (This will serve 20+ party guests.) Lay the globes on a single large tray or piece of cardboard covered with foil. Frost each half-globe in a different color (choose any colors you like, as the Bakugan balls come in every color—blue, white, green, red, orange, purple, brown, black and yellow. Then use tube icing in contrasting colors to pipe designs on each globe to make them look like Bakugan balls. To make personalized Bakugan Balls cakes you can do the same process using a Mini-Sports Ball pan set.

Bakugan “Attributes” cupcakes
Bake enough cupcakes to serve the guests, and cover with white frosting. Buy ready-made fondant at a cake supply store, roll it out and cut it into circles with a cookie cutter. Use Foodoodler edible markers to draw one of the six different Bakugan attribute symbols (Pyrus, Haos, Subterra, Ventus, Aquos and Darkus) on each circle, and lay a circle on each cupcake. Alternatively, you can add a pre-made Bakugan cupcake image to each cupcake.

If you don’t want to fuss with making the symbols yourself or adding an image and are looking for a simpler solution, you can purchase Bakugan Attribute rings/cupcake toppers online. Frost the cupcakes in different Attribute colors (green, blue, red, orange, black and brown) and press an attribute topper into each cupcake.

Bakugan action figure sheet cake
This is an easy way to create a Bakugan-themed birthday cake from scratch. Purchase a Bakugan action figure that you know the birthday boy or girl will love and use it as the centerpiece for the cake. Bake a sheet cake and cover it with white frosting or marshmallow fluff. You will be using simple frosting effects to create a white-centered starburst like the one on the back of the Bakugan card. Make a starburst pattern around the edges of the cake using red tube frosting, and use a knife or spatula to blend it in. Then use chocolate/brown tube frosting to darken the corners of the cake, and use the spatula to blend and soften the edges. Finally, take a clean knife and draw it from the centre of the cake to the outer edges to create a white starburst pattern. Now place the Bakugan action figure in the center of the cake. You can also pipe a birthday message using the rest of the chocolate tube icing.

Alternatively, you can buy Bakugan edible image toppers which are easily added onto a sheet-pan cake.
